Role Purpose

The Junior / Intermediate Full-Stack Developer will support the development, improvement, testing, deployment, and maintenance of modern web-based business platforms.

The role is suited to a developer who has a good foundation in front-end and back-end development and is looking to grow under the guidance of a Senior Developer.

The successful candidate must be able to assist with building web applications, APIs, dashboards, portals, forms, reports, workflows, and database-driven functionality.

 

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Assist with the development and maintenance of web applications and business platforms.
• Build and update front-end screens, forms, dashboards, and user interfaces.
• Develop basic back-end functionality, APIs, workflows, and system features.
• Fix bugs and support system improvements.
• Write clean, organised, and maintainable code.
• Ensure work is tested before being submitted for review.

 

Front-End Development

• Build responsive web pages and user interfaces.
• Work with React, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Tailwind CSS.
• Implement designs and screen layouts accurately.
• Ensure applications work on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
• Improve user experience, navigation, and screen flow where required.

 

Back-End Development

• Assist with developing APIs, server-side logic, and integration services.
• Support authentication, user roles, permissions, and access control features.
• Work with basic business logic, validation, error handling, and system processes.
• Assist with workflow features, notifications, and reporting functionality.

 

Database Support

• Assist with database queries, updates, reports, and data-driven functionality.
• Work with databases such as PostgreSQL, Supabase, Firebase, SQL Server, MySQL, or MongoDB.
• Support data validation, data capture, data accuracy, and basic reporting.
• Assist with data imports, exports, and system testing.

 

API and Integration Support

• Assist with integrating third-party APIs and external services.
• Work with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, SMS gateways, email services, payment gateways, and verification APIs.
• Test API responses and troubleshoot integration issues.
• Document API work where required.

 

Hosting and Deployment Support

• Assist with application deployments on Vercel and similar platforms.
• Support development, staging, UAT, and production environments.
• Assist with environment variables and deployment settings.
• Help troubleshoot build errors, deployment issues, and runtime errors.

 

Testing and Quality Assurance

• Test new features and bug fixes before release.
• Assist with debugging, regression testing, and UAT support.
• Log and resolve defects assigned by the Senior Developer or Technical Lead.
• Ensure completed work meets the agreed requirements.

 

Documentation and Support

• Document completed technical work where required.
• Prepare basic handover notes and support notes.
• Assist with troubleshooting user-reported issues.
• Support maintenance, enhancements, and system improvements.

 

Technical Stack

The candidate should have experience or working knowledge of some of the following:

 

Front-End: React, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, Tailwind CSS.

Back-End: Node.js, Express.js, API development, serverless functions.

Databases: PostgreSQL, Supabase, Firebase, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB.

Hosting and Deployment: Vercel, cloud hosting, environment variables, staging and production deployments.

Version Control: Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket.

Integrations: REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, SMS gateways, email services, payment gateways, and third-party APIs.

Security: Authentication, user roles, access control, secure coding basics, API security, and data privacy awareness.

 

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum 1 to 3 years’ software development experience for junior level.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years’ software development experience for intermediate level.
• Basic to good full-stack development experience.
• Experience with React, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Tailwind CSS.
• Experience with Node.js, Express.js, APIs, or similar back-end technologies.
• Experience working with SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Basic experience deploying applications on Vercel or similar platforms.
• Experience using Git, GitHub, GitLab, or similar version control tools.
• Good problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to follow technical instructions and coding standards.
• Willingness to learn from senior developers.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks within agreed timelines.

 

Advantageous Experience

• Experience building dashboards, admin screens, portals, forms, or workflow systems.
• Experience with Supabase, Firebase, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
• Experience with payment gateways, SMS gateways, email services, or verification APIs.
• Experience with document uploads, file storage, reports, and notifications.
• Experience working on mobile-responsive web applications.
• Basic understanding of POPIA, data privacy, audit trails, and secure data handling.
• Experience supporting live systems and resolving user issues.

Qualifications

• A degree, diploma, certificate, or relevant training in Software Development, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field will be advantageous.
• Strong practical experience, portfolio work, GitHub projects, or previous development work will also be considered.
