Position Title: Senior Full-Stack Developer

Role Purpose

The Senior Full-Stack Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, improving, deploying, and supporting modern web-based business platforms.

The role requires a hands-on developer who can work across both front-end and back-end development. The candidate must be able to build secure, scalable, and reliable web applications, APIs, dashboards, portals, workflows, and database-driven systems.

The successful candidate must be able to understand business requirements, translate them into technical solutions, develop the solution, test it, deploy it, and provide ongoing technical support.

 

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Develop, maintain, and improve web applications and business platforms.
• Build secure, scalable, and reliable front-end and back-end functionality.
• Develop dashboards, portals, forms, workflows, reports, and self-service platforms.
• Create reusable components and clean, maintainable code.
• Ensure applications are responsive and work across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

 

Front-End Development

• Build clean, modern, and user-friendly interfaces.
• Work with front-end technologies such as React, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Tailwind CSS.
• Ensure good user experience, screen flow, navigation, responsiveness, and performance.
• Implement UI designs accurately and consistently.
• Support Progressive Web App functionality where required.

 

Back-End Development

• Develop server-side functionality, APIs, business logic, and workflows.
• Build secure REST APIs and integration layers.
• Implement authentication, password reset, OTP, MFA, user roles, access control, and permissions.
• Create secure and reliable back-end services that support business processes.
• Ensure proper error handling, validation, logging, and audit trails.

 

 

 

Database Development

• Design, build, and maintain database structures.
• Work with databases such as PostgreSQL, Supabase, Firebase, SQL Server, MySQL, or MongoDB.
• Write and optimise queries for reports, dashboards, and application functionality.
• Support data validation, data accuracy, data migration, and data processing.
• Ensure secure handling and storage of data.

 

API and Third-Party Integrations

• Develop and maintain integrations with third-party systems and APIs.
• Work with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, payment gateways, SMS gateways, email services, verification APIs, and other external platforms.
• Ensure API integrations are secure, tested, logged, and properly documented.
• Manage API errors, authentication, retries, and response handling.

 

Hosting, Deployment, and Vercel

• Deploy and manage applications using Vercel and similar hosting platforms.
• Manage development, staging, UAT, and production environments.
• Configure environment variables and deployment settings.
• Troubleshoot deployment issues, build errors, runtime errors, and environment-related issues.
• Support production releases and rollback planning.

 

Security and Compliance

• Apply secure coding practices.
• Implement authentication, access control, role-based permissions, API security, and data privacy controls.
• Support POPIA-aware development and secure handling of personal information.
• Ensure systems include audit trails, user activity logs, and access logs where required.
• Identify and resolve security risks in applications, APIs, and databases.

 

Testing and Quality Assurance

• Test developed features before release.
• Support unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, debugging, bug fixing, and UAT.
• Investigate and resolve defects.
• Ensure released features are stable, functional, and aligned to requirements.

 

Performance, Monitoring, and Support

• Optimise application performance, page speed, API performance, and database queries.
• Monitor application errors, logs, and production issues.
• Support troubleshooting, maintenance, bug fixes, and enhancements.
• Ensure systems remain stable, reliable, and available.

 

Documentation

• Document technical work where required.
• Maintain documentation for APIs, databases, deployments, integrations, environments, and system functionality.
• Prepare handover notes, release notes, and support documentation where needed.

 

 

Technical Stack

The ideal candidate should have experience with some or most of the following:

 

Front-End: React, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, Tailwind CSS.

Back-End: Node.js, Express.js, API development, serverless functions.

Databases: PostgreSQL, Supabase, Firebase, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB.

Hosting and Deployment: Vercel, cloud hosting, environment variables, staging environments, UAT environments, production deployments, rollback planning.

Version Control: Git, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket.

Integrations: REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, payment gateways, SMS gateways, email services, third-party APIs, verification APIs.

Security: Authentication, password reset, OTP, MFA, user roles, access control, secure coding, API security, audit trails, data privacy.

Additional Capabilities: Progressive Web Apps, file uploads, document management, image handling, PDF handling, logging, error tracking, system monitoring, AI tools, and automation awareness.

 

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ software development experience.
• Strong full-stack development experience.
• Experience building and maintaining web applications, dashboards, portals, APIs, and database-driven systems.
• Experience with React, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Tailwind CSS.
• Experience with Node.js, Express.js, APIs, and serverless functions.
• Experience working with SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Experience deploying applications on Vercel or similar platforms.
• Experience with Git-based source control.
• Good understanding of authentication, user roles, access control, and secure coding.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
• Ability to understand business requirements and turn them into working solutions.

 

Advantageous Experience

• Experience building admin portals, client portals, workflow systems, reporting dashboards, or self-service platforms.
• Experience with payment gateways, SMS gateways, email services, identity verification APIs, or data verification APIs.
• Experience with cloud hosting, CI/CD, environment variables, and production releases.
• Experience with POPIA, data privacy, compliance, audit trails, or secure data handling.
• Experience with document uploads, file storage, notifications, reporting, and user activity tracking.
• Experience with mobile-responsive platforms or Progressive Web Apps.
• Experience supporting production systems and resolving live issues.

Qualifications

• A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field will be advantageous.
• Relevant certifications in software development, cloud hosting, cybersecurity, databases, or DevOps will be advantageous.
• Strong practical experience will also be considered.
